This is Dunton’s 2nd ‘Big Weekender’ organised by Dunton residents. The long weekend aims to help local organisations fundraise and create enjoyable outings for all the family, with lots of things for everyone to participate in and see.
This year, visitors to Dunton can enjoy playing crib and backgammon at the March Hare on Thursday evening, followed by a night at the races at the village hall on Friday evening. On Saturday you can fill your day with craft activities at St Mary Magdalene Church; picnic, fun and games at the community garden and a children’s disco at the village hall. On Sunday, another hectic day, with events commencing with a car treasure hunt starting at the March Hare; a fete on the recreation ground; songs of praise in the church and finally a quiz at the March Hare.
At the fete, this year, visitors can enjoy displays in the arena including gun dogs, belly dancers and cheer leading. There will also be local stall holders including Katherine Myer’s Children’s Music and Wax and Wicks.
Over the weekend there will be a wide range of refreshments, the March Hare will be open as usual; tea coffee and cakes at the church; ploughman’s and bring your own picnic in the community garden; the bar in the pavilion will be open and summer cocktails on the recreation ground during the fete to go with a delicious pizza. If it is really hot at the fete you can enjoy Dunton made Maynard’s ice cream, whilst watching the children’s races.
